You will have noticed that the melodic minors scales are different going up and down the scale. The harmonic minors use the same notes going up and down.

A minor - relative major C. In the key of C there are no sharps or flats in the key signature.

Melodic minor

Harmonic minor

In the melodic minor, the 6th and 7th notes are raised going up, and these notes are lowered again going down.
In the harmonic minor, only the 7th note is raised, and this stays the same going down.
