Melodic minors scales always go up the scale with the same pattern.

This pattern is (using the scale of A minor)
tone,       semitone,    tone,        tone,   
A to B,     B to C,        C to D,      D to E,  

tone,                  tone,                          semitone.    
E to F sharp,      F sharp to G sharp,    G sharp to A.

All melodic minor scales go up the scale with the pattern:
tone, semitone, tone, tone, tone, tone, semitone.

Harmonic minor scales go up the scale with a different pattern.
tone,      semitone,    tone,       tone
A to B,    B to C,        C to D,     D to E

semitone,   tone plus a semitone,       semitone.
E to F         F to G sharp,                    G sharp to A

All harmonic minor scales go up the scale with the pattern:
tone, semitone, tone, tone, semitone, tone plus a semitone, semitone.
