This is a special page on key signatures.

At the start of a stave you will see sharps or flats written.

These key signatures indicate what KEY the piece of music is in.
If there are no sharps or flats, the key is C major.
If there is only one sharp, that sharp is always F sharp and the key is G major.
If there is only one flat, that flat is always B flat and the key is F major.
If there are 2 sharps, the sharps are F and C, written in that order, and the key is D major.

In the key of G major, every F note in the music is F sharp, unless there is a natural sign before it.
In the key of D major, every D and F notes in the music are D and F sharps, unless there are natural signs before them.
In the key of F major, every B note in the music is B flat, unless there is a natural sign written before it.
